May 26, 2010 Dear Parents, “For all that has been – thanks...” As I reflect upon the 2009-2010 school year, I am filled with a sense of joy and gratitude. I am grateful to each of you for entrusting your children to the St. Michael School staff to continue the spiritual and educational formation that you began as their first teachers. Your participation as our educational partners will help us to continue to grow as a learning community. I am grateful to the teachers who strive for academic excellence as they model the Gospel values to you, your children, and one another. I am grateful for the service projects completed through the Light the World program and to our entire school community who made our world a little brighter through their many acts of service. Finally, I am grateful to Tom who supports me, encourages me, and challenges me to live the ministry to which I have been called. I thank God for all that has been and I look forward to all that will be during the 2010-2011 school year as we celebrate our first decade. Mark your calendars for a “Back to School” picnic on Sunday, August 22nd. More details will follow. May God who has begun this good work in us, carry it through to completion. This weekend, the Feast of Pentecost, at all the Masses, Msgr. Tim O’Connor read a letter regarding the financial situation of the parish and the school. In case you were out of town, the parish is mailing the letter to your homes this week. It explains that St. Michael parish and school are facing a sizeable budget deficit that will require cost-cutting measures without impacting the essential mission of church and school. Please know that St. Michael School, your child, and the spiritual and academic program for which St. Michael is known will remain very strong. I just signed my contract last week and look forward to facing any challenges ahead with Mr. Davey, a highly qualified staff, and the grace of God. A few exciting changes that will be taking place in the 2010-2011 school year include: +St. Michael School will manage our own school lunch program +The FACTS Tuition Management program will be coordinated by the school office I will inform you of any other changes/additions in the report card letter that will follow next month.
